During the Wilhelmine era, the existing building of the animal health center was used as a drill hall and riding hall for the officers in 1897. The vehicle shed built in 1913 was later used as stables. After the First World War, Lahr was demilitarized. In order to attract trade and industry and boost the economy, some of the former barracks buildings were sold. The Alsatian company Rothändle left France as part of the transition from German to French Alsace and bought up the entire site in 1920.Rothändle was later absorbed by the Hanseatic Reemtsma Group, which in turn belongs to the Tobacco Group. In September 2009, Braun&Braun Grundstücksverwaltungsgesellschaft und Ko KG acquired the former drill hall and horse stables in order to convert them into a veterinary practice. In May 2010, Tiergesundheitszentrum Lahr GmbH then moved into the new premises, which are currently being expanded again in 2025 to include additional treatment rooms and a CT for horses and small animals. So, after more than 100 years, the circle has come full circle and where horses once ran their courses, four-legged friends are once again the focus of attention.
